Water deironizer with aeration

From the content of this interesting article you will learn:

1. Is iron in water dangerous?

2. types of iron and the method of purification

3. The design of the equipment

4. Advantages and disadvantages

5. Conclusions

Water is the main source of trace elements for our body. That is why their concentration is so important for drinking water. Industrial water, which is used for various needs in factories, also adheres to strict regulations. In water sources, which are often surface water bodies and wells, it is a frequent phenomenon to exceed the concentration of one or another element. Today let's talk about iron. Is its increased concentration in water so dangerous? What method of filtration is best to use.

1. Is iron in water dangerous?

The first question of interest is about the danger of the element iron in water. Here the unambiguous answer is yes. In the maximum concentration of this trace element is even useful. But at an increased content can pose a serious threat to both the body and the equipment.
Drinking water saturated with iron is unacceptable for use. First, because of the color. Second, because of the taste. Iron is quite stable and does not wash out of the body well. Accumulating, it pushes out other useful trace elements, which leads to imbalance. Chronic diseases are aggravated, the condition of the intestines, nervous system deteriorates, immunity falls. A very high concentration of iron can even lead to hormonal failure.
Technical water used in enterprises is not suitable for processing or washing products. As for boiler rooms, the presence of any impurities is inadmissible there at all. Especially iron. It spoils equipment and pipes. Iron deposits narrow pipes, cause corrosion. All this leads to rapid wear of equipment. And, consequently, its replacement. And this is quite tangible financial costs.
Based on the above, we can safely state that a high level of iron in the water is a negative factor that carries a lot of consequences. Therefore, water purification from such a harmful element is a prerequisite for water treatment. The second question about effective methods of purification from iron impurities. There are many ways to get rid of this element. Almost all of them are based on preliminary oxidation. Dissolved iron can be purified only by chemical substances. Therefore, iron must be converted to an undissolved form before filtration.

2. Types of iron and method of purification

Iron is found in water in several types: dissolved, undissolved, bacterial, and colloidal. Bacterial iron is most commonly found in terrestrial water bodies. And is obtained by the work of certain species of bacteria. Colloidal iron is a joint molecule of iron and organic matter. It is found in water not very often. It can only be removed with the help of reagents. The most common type is dissolved iron. It is almost always found in well water. In this form, it remains until it gets access to oxygen. Then a chemical reaction begins and iron becomes undissolved, acquiring a trivalent form. In this form, it can already be seen in water because of the presence of sediment and unpleasant color.
So, the best way to get rid of iron impurities is to oxidize the medium. In this case, it is desirable to use an inexpensive and safe means. Universal oxidizer, which can not even buy, is oxygen. Getting into the water, it provokes a chemical reaction. And iron precipitates. This method is simple and universal. It can be used both for country houses and industrial enterprises. Combining the method with additional equipment is considered an effective method of purifying water from iron impurities.
The optimal option will be the installation of a deironizer filter with an aeration function. Such a system combines several purposes: oxidation and filtration of sludge. Water treated in this way is not only free of iron impurities, but also with improved characteristics. Since in the process there is a saturation of water with oxygen. It has a positive effect on the taste, color and smell of the liquid.

3. Equipment design

Externally, the equipment can look different. It depends on the manufacturer and the volume of the tank. Externally represents a column with additional design elements. How does the filtration process occur in such a system?

  1. Air is injected into the column and envelopes the body from the inside.
  2. The water stream is atomized, saturated with air and oxidation takes place.
  3. The undissolved iron precipitates out.
  4. The water stream passes through the load, continuing the oxidation.
  5. The load traps all undissolved particles.
  6. The water flows to the consumer.
  7. At the end of the cycle, the filter is flushed of accumulated contaminants by flowing water in the opposite direction. Air is reintroduced back into the column, renewing and the process begins again.

The filtration rate depends on the volume of the vessel, the pressure of the source water, and the loading. The filter material also has its own technical characteristics. There can be different size and shape of granules, composition. All this affects the efficiency of purification. In addition to the load has a significant impact on the initial composition of water. Naturally, first of all, after receiving the data is interested in the concentration of iron. But other information is no less important. Since deferrization columns are able to qualitatively purify water at certain values. This applies to the presence of other impurities, acid-alkaline balance, pressure, temperature.
A standard deferrization system with aeration method and filter with loading consists of: column, control unit, loading, gravel, drainage system.
For what is necessary tank, filter material and drainage system have already been analyzed. But the control unit is a controlling element. It takes into account the water consumption and filtration volume. It switches on the filter washing mode. It is possible to set a notification in case of system malfunction. Depends on the type of unit and manufacturer.
In the absence of a control unit, filter rinsing is carried out manually. This is quite inconvenient. It is impossible to control the level of contamination of the filter material and the volume of water passing through. And if for use in country houses manual installations can still be used, then in industrial production it is mandatory to automate the system.

4. Advantages and disadvantages

Each filtration system has its own advantages and disadvantages despite its wide range of applications. To the main pluses, experts include:

  • Ease of use of the equipment.
  • The possibility of automating the system.
  • Does not use chemicals in the oxidation process.
  • The ability to choose the filtering material, depending on the characteristics of the water.
  • Quick washing of the filter.
  • Low cost of operation of the equipment.
  • Enrichment of water with oxygen
  • Improvement of organoleptic characteristics of water.

But there are also disadvantages:

  • Certain water characteristics for effective purification.
  • Periodic replenishment or replacement of filter media.

Despite the presence of minuses, the positive qualities of this method are much more. The use of loading allows you to enhance the effect of oxidation and remove sediment. And purification without the use of reagents allows you to filter drinking water.

5. Conclusions

Deironizing filters with aeration method is a universal way to purify water from iron and manganese impurities. Without resorting to the use of chemicals. Can be used in a variety of applications, without restrictions. If necessary, you can always add new elements, modernizing the system. Ease of installation.
Quality materials, from which the column and components are made, allow you to extend the service life. But the work of the equipment will depend on proper operation and service.
The efficiency of purification depends on the selected filter material. It is selected taking into account the data on the composition of the source water. Given that water has such a property - to change its composition. Water should be analyzed once every few years. And, depending on the change in composition, change the filter material.
The variety of systems and performance allows you to choose the equipment for your needs. Do not forget about the need to install pre-filtration. Such a filter allows you to eliminate particularly large contaminants and extend the life of the equipment.
